We've all heard the extensive history behind prestigious eyewear giant Ray Ban, how their oblique 3025 Aviators were initially created for US Army Air Pilots during during the 1930s. How the Wayfarer nearly stole the spotlight from Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's, but one key Ray Ban model was always overlooked, until now.
Created during the 1980s, the Ray Ban Clubmaster (3016) has been worn by several generations from the entertainment industry, actor Joshua Jackson, Disney star and singer Kevin Jonas, actress Natalie Portman, songstress Jessica Simpson, media megastar Lindsay Lohan, model Mischa Barton, Jumper's Rachel Bilson, Gossip Girl style icon Blake Lively and actress Chloe Sevigney. A master of niche style, a mythical vintage model that's quietly remained in style for decades.
Still revelling in the success of the now ubiquitous Wayfarer, Ray Ban have delved back into the past to revive the Clubmaster in the hope of generating millions in revenue. In fact, Ray Ban are so confident in the 3016 that they've predicted that 16million pairs of the re-launched item will have been sold by the end of 2009.
So why are Ray Ban so confident? Although the Clubmaster was only formerly seen and not heard it helped to create the oh so niche persona it's now known for, an ideology for the fashion conscious who live for exclusive deviating looks like no other. One of the 3016's other strong pulls is that not everyone is brave enough to pull it off. Clubmaster wearers, congratulations, you're now even more style-credible!
What's different? Ray Ban's 3016 is still the closest thing to rock godliness, continuing to project an immense fashion statement with its 50s inspired brow line, vintage pin hinge and mineral green glass lenses, inspired by American pop culture at the time of its release. For the longest time, the Clubmaster has been available in classic black and tortoise only, limiting the frames fan base due to the severity and seriousness of the restricted colour schemes. However, with a New Year comes a new chapter and Ray Ban have birthed a new breed of fun pearl 3016 colour ways, say hello to Scarlet Red, Grass Green, Azure Blue (above) and Silken Silver because the Ray Ban Clubmaster just got amplified and are our Sunglasses of the Month! Even better, all of our 3016 frames are still just £79.95.
At the Ray Ban Remasters bash, the marketing director behind the models re-launch said, 'Ray-Ban is a brand that believes the best thing you can be is yourself,'
'...we wanted to go back to the fifties to reinterpret the Clubmaster because it was an age of great cultural change, energy, good will and hope and we wanted to bring that freshness and happiness into today’s marketplace,'.
